Where else should you go into nature in rainy weather if not to an Austrian gorge? This time, I chose the area near the town of Scharnitz, right on the border with Germany.
The route along the Isar River is very scenic and definitely one I can recommend. Whether you go for a hike or a bike trip to Kastenalm — or even all the way to Hallerangeralm — it's well worth it.
Originally, I didn't have high expectations for the gorge. It was simply a forced alternative due to very bad, rainy weather, which made the experience all the more pleasantly surprising. This place is definitely worth a visit.
The gorge itself isn't particularly photogenic, and I honestly struggled to capture it properly in photos. So you'll have to trust me when I say that this spot is worth seeing.
Along the way, you may also come across an unnamed waterfall or another gorge called Karwendelklamm on the opposite side of the river. I only paid for three hours of parking, which turned out to be a mistake. I felt under time pressure the entire time and didn't manage to visit these natural highlights at all. All the more reason to come back someday.
My route from the paid parking area to the gorge.
