The summit of Schneid (2,009 m) and its surroundings are certainly not among well-known tourist destinations. If you're looking to walk through beautiful alpine scenery that is still relatively quiet and uncrowded, I would definitely recommend this area.

If you have enough time and energy, you can choose one of the more demanding routes to the peaks of Gehrenspitze (2,163 m) or Kellenspitze (2,238 m), the latter of which is accessed via a challenging and highly rated via ferrata graded D. That was my original plan, but due to uncertain weather and strong winds, I ultimately decided not to take the risk and headed for the summit of Schneid instead.

From here, I saw mountain goats for the first time and almost the last time in 2025. That alone shows that nature here still enjoys a great deal of peace and quiet.

On the way back, you can stop at mountain huts such as Schneetal Alm or Lechaschauer Alpe. At the latter, I did what I usually do: tried the local beer and a hot soup. It may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of an Alpine vacation, but it would be a shame to skip it entirely. It is definitely worth a visit.
