The area around Loser (1,838 m) feels like a smaller, Austrian version of Seceda — more precisely, part of the nature reserve Westteil des Toten Gebirges. In summer, it's especially popular with via ferrata climbers and hikers.

The hike itself is relatively short, measuring only 4.5 kilometers, but you'll encounter three truly "wow" highlights and can easily spend several hours here just soaking in the views. The first highlight is Lake Augstsee, which is incredibly photogenic from virtually every angle. It's definitely something you should see.

The second highlight is the northwestern rock faces. The resemblance to the Dolomites' Seceda is striking — just on a smaller scale.

The third highlight is the panoramic views over the Salzkammergut region and the Dachstein massif. The best views can be found on the summit of Hochanger (1,838 m).

For via ferrata enthusiasts, there is the fairly well-known Sisi via ferrata, a moderately demanding route graded D that finishes on the summit of Loser (1,838 m). Less experienced climbers can opt for the Sophie traverse, graded B/C.

It's important to note that access by car to the upper parking area is only allowed between 4:00 PM and 8:00 AM. During the day, you must use the cable car (around €30), which is significantly more expensive and also limits you in terms of time.
