After a year, I returned once again to the Rofan Mountains. This area had completely won me over on my first visit, and I felt a strong urge to come back and explore what I hadn't managed to see last time. This time, however, I wasn't as lucky with the weather.

I took a bit of a gamble and arrived at the end of May. At the cable car station, I was told that all via ferratas were open, so I headed uphill. I knew there would still be some snow and had planned for that, but the thick clouds clinging to the individual peaks caught me off guard.

I hoped they would gradually lift and that visibility would improve, but the opposite happened. My original plan was to reach the highest peak of the range, Hochiss (2,299 m), via a C/D via ferrata. Instead, I chose the opposite direction, taking a B/C ferrata to Spieljoch (2,236 m).

From there, I planned to continue to Seekarlspitze (2,261 m), but a deep layer of snow stopped me. The route didn't look safe, so it was time to turn back.

In the end, I still made a stop at the viewing platform on Gschöllkopf (2,039 m). In good weather, this is an absolutely top-class area for hiking and via ferrata climbing. You can see what this place looks like in sunny conditions in the article dedicated to Roßkopf (2,259 m).
