Gössnitzfall (Jungfernsprung)
Elevation: 100 m / Lenght: 1,5 km / Time: 1 hrs
Visit rate: 2/5 / Rating: 3/5
When traveling to the village of Heiligenblut or along the Großglockner High Alpine Road, you'll come across two waterfalls that are well worth a short stop.
The less impressive one, called Jungfernsprung, is visible directly from the road. The parking area and viewing platform are located right next to the turn-off, so there's no need to walk far to get a photo. More ambitious visitors can climb a fairly steep 100 meters of elevation to reach the viewing platform located right by the waterfall.
A few kilometers further on, beyond the village of Heiligenblut, you'll find the second — and more hidden — Gössnitzfall. A gravel road leads to a parking area less than a kilometer from the waterfall, and a path along the Gössnitz stream takes you all the way there. Once again, you'll gain just under 100 meters of elevation.
I highly recommend waterproof clothing or a rain jacket. After just a few minutes on the viewing platform, we looked like we had stepped straight out of the shower. Fine water droplets are carried upward by the wind, creating a misty cloud — in short, you'll be completely soaked within minutes. That said, it's a very beautiful waterfall and definitely worth a visit.
Circular route from the free parking area to the waterfall. The access road (450 m) is gravel.
