The hidden Johanneswasserfall, located just a few hundred meters from the road, is a waterfall I would rank at the very top among those in Austria. Thanks to its location away from the main tourist routes, it is almost completely untouched by crowds.
The biggest attraction is undoubtedly the possibility to walk beneath the rock overhang behind the waterfall. Be prepared to get unintentionally soaked here. It may not look that impressive in photos, but after Slovenia's Peričnik Waterfall, this is definitely one of the most fascinating waterfalls I have ever seen in person.
Above the waterfall, there is a very nice viewing platform. From there, it's about a 150-meter descent down the stairs to reach the waterfall itself. If you'd like to spend more time in the area, you can also take a short circular walk through the forest, which takes roughly an hour.
Short circular route around the waterfall.
