Climbing to the top of the Zugspitze was one of the most challenging and best hikes I've experienced so far. Getting to the top is only possible by cable car, train or ferrata. I chose the easier ferrata of A/B difficulty on the Austrian side. I had to climb approximately 1850m of elevation gain to get to the top. It would have been maybe 100m less but I forgot to pay for parking and had to walk back to the car, that was a blast.

It wasn't a difficult ferrata, the more experienced can do it without belaying (I don't recommend it), but the best part of the whole trip was the unexpected viewpoint about halfway up (47.4239664N, 10.9669736E). The view of the cloudy sea from that rock was just unreal, I felt like I owned the whole world for a moment, it was really amazing.

I ran out of drink two thirds of the way up and by the last kilometre of the climb I was at the top of my physical capabilities and slightly dehydrated. I'll never forget the taste of the ice cold coca cola I bought after the climb, I've never had anything better, really. My legs then gave up the ghost, so I took the cable car back down. It was a tough day, but a great experience as usual.
