Rosina and Hias - C/D
Elevation: 150 m / Lenght: 220 m
Approach: 20 min / Duration: 1-3 hrs
Rating: 4/5
As a final preparation for the Dachstein Super Ferrata, I climbed two rather fun and just right challenging via ferratas with difficulty levels C/D and D in the Silberkarklamm gorge with Luboš.
Entrance to the gorge costs around 8 euros and parking is free. Just be careful where you park. According to reviews, part of the parking lot, especially the lower part, is private land where you have to pay.
We first tried the Hias ferrata, which in my opinion does not correspond to the stated difficulty level C/D, because it offers lots of places to rest and is not very exposed. The more demanding sections of difficulty C can be overcome in a few minutes. It was good for warming up, but I probably wouldn't climb it again. It didn't appeal to me in any way.
In contrast, the Rosina ferrata was, in my opinion, a D-level as it should be. Technically, I would classify the climb as more of a C/D, but the almost vertical climb up a 100 m high rock face gave it the right gradients. In warm weather you can expect even tens of fans watching you from below, which you probably can't avoid here.
At the top you can take some nice photos and then continue to the mountain hut, where you can have a cold beer for about 5 eur. If you still haven't had enough, there is a third ferrata called Siega and difficulty C/D. Each of these ferratas takes about an hour, so in the end it can easily be a whole day of climbing in a nice environment. The gorge itself is not very nice, unfortunately below average by Austrian standards.
