Persailhorn - B/C

08/08/2023

A long but easy B/C via ferrata awaits you on the way up to Persailhorn (2,347 m). If you have enough time, energy, and the weather is on your side, you can continue along the ridge all the way to Breithorn (2,504 m).

For the ascent, I'd recommend the southern ferrata, which includes short C sections. For the descent, take the northern route, graded B. The south face is exposed to the sun all day long, so it gets noticeably warm — make sure you bring plenty of water. You can refill your bottle at the Peter-Wiechenthaler Hütte.

The descent is long and, for more experienced climbers, probably a bit boring. If you're not a fan of ferratas, you can take the middle trail, which mostly avoids any via ferrata climbing. You'll still encounter a few cables there, but more as handrails than actual protection. Unlike most Alpine summits, you won't find a cross on the top. Instead, there's a wooden statue of the Madonna of Persailhorn — definitely worth a look. I somehow managed to forget to take a photo… oops.

Route from the parking area via the C ferrata to the summit of Persailhorn (2,347 m).
