Just across the Austrian border lies the picturesque German town of Reit im Winkl and the nearby Hausbachfall Waterfall.
This waterfall is actually a cascade of smaller falls, along which runs an ascending traverse via ferrata of difficulty C. The initial, rather unremarkable B section can be completely bypassed, so it's possible to start the ferrata right at the technically and climbing-wise most enjoyable part. Unfortunately, I only realized this too late.
There are only two tricky spots on the route: just after the "planks" and before the second rope bridge. I climbed after rain, so the rock was quite slippery. In dry conditions, I would recommend it even for beginners.
In summer, the waterfall is more like a small stream, and the rope bridge at the end isn't particularly exciting—it's more of a simple crossing over the creek. The views over the town are beautiful, and I really enjoyed the descent through the gorge. Overall, I appreciated the natural surroundings even more than the ferrata itself.
