TOP 5 viewpoints on Madeira

09/04/2026

On Madeira, you'll come across scenic viewpoints at almost every turn. I've selected five that are definitely worth a stop and that I haven't mentioned in my previous articles.

Eira do Serrado

Eira do Serrado is the only viewpoint on this list that faces the island's interior. The drive toward the parking area near the Eira do Serrado hotel is quite interesting in itself, I probably don't need to say much more, you'll see for yourself. When you look over the railing, a nearly one kilometer deep valley opens up all the way down to the town of Curral das Freiras and the surrounding villages, a view you won't come across just anywhere.

Miradouro da Beira da Quinta

Not far from the town of Arco de São Jorge, there's a beautiful viewpoint offering some of the best views of Madeira's northern coast. Compared to other viewpoints, you're at a significantly higher elevation here, which makes the view of the coastline and the ocean truly exceptional. We also met a local farmer at the viewpoint who was selling fresh local fruit and even gave us a taste.

Miradouro de São Cristóvão

A well known viewpoint by the restaurant of the same name, regularly featured on Instagram. All parking spaces near the restaurant are marked "for customers only," and the staff aren't too happy if you just stop by for a quick photo and then leave right away.

Praia do Faial

This viewpoint is located by the small beach Praia do Faial, which is undergoing renovations in 2026 and is therefore largely closed (most likely due to limited parking and the need to secure the viewpoint, which sits right on the cliffs). There are very few parking spaces here, so most visitors park along the roadside, and getting out can sometimes be quite a challenge.

Quinta do Furão

This is a beautiful coastal viewpoint with cliffs and a waterfall, located within the grounds of the luxurious Quinta do Furão resort. Parking is reserved for hotel and restaurant guests only. We stopped here for lunch, the pizza was excellent, but also seriously expensive. Still, the view made it absolutely worth it.
